Mary K. Sickel

Savannah, GA - Mary K. Sickel passed to her eternal rest on May 5, 2007. She was born August 19, 1904 and was the oldest living member of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension. Her family has been members at Ascension for over five generations. She was active in the Lottie Lang Missionary Society and other church functions until the last few years. Mary was a homemaker, skilled in gardening, sewing and interior design. She helped her husband restore and plan the interior of at least ten homes in the historic district. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Sickel; sister, Norma Jones and her brother, Albert Cuyler Kline, all of Savannah.
She leaves one daughter, Marilyn Smith; one granddaughter, Michelle Vine Barry; three great-granddaughters, Christina Sullivan, Angelique Sullivan and Stephanie Vine; one great-grandson, Billy Vine, all of Savannah. She leaves nieces, Rosetta Sellers & Shirley Marks of Savannah, Nancy Jones Gordon of Decatur; nephew, Earl L. Jones, Jr. Druscilla of Baltimore, AL to mourn her passing. Many thanks to her faithful caregivers, JoAnn Eady, Ida Holmes, Mozell Perry, and all the wonderful people at Hospice Savannah.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to7:00 p.m. on Monday at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Islands Chapel of Fox and Weeks with Reverend Dr. William Roen and Reverend Jack Oshiek officiating.
Interment will follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery. Following the burial, friends are invited to the home of Barry & Michelle Vine, 116 Woodline Dr. at Long Point on Whitemarsh Island.
